Upscale an image 2× with AI

Double the size of a small image with AI.

How to use it

Open the image and it is upscaled 2× by AI: 800 × 600 becomes 1600 × 1200, with cleaner edges and the blocky JPEG marks gone. The model enlarges what is already in the picture and does not repaint it: faces keep their features, and lettering you can read in the original keeps its letters. It is free, needs no account, and takes images up to 1440 pixels on the long side; larger ones are enlarged in your browser.

  1. Click Choose an image, or drop the file on the page. It goes to our server and comes back at twice the width and height, usually in 10 to 30 seconds; the first request after a quiet spell can take longer. The card shows Uploading and then AI is upscaling while you wait. History shows Super Resolution 2×.
  2. Read the card. For the sample it reads 800 × 600 → 1600 × 1200 · JPG. Click View at 100% to compare edges and lettering with the original.
  3. If the card says AI upscale is unavailable, the picture was enlarged on your device instead. Click Retry after a minute to send it again, or Use this one to keep the on-device result. When today's free AI upscales are used up, the card says so and offers the on-device result for download; AI upscale is back the next day.
  4. Need another size? Click More options… to open Image Size: type the pixels, pick Preserve Details (enlargement) for photos or Nearest Neighbor (hard edges) for pixel art, and set Resolution to 300 for print.
  5. Click Download JPG. A PNG is saved as PNG.

On your deviceLarger images, 4×, and any time AI upscale is unavailable: Preserve Details resampling, nothing uploaded

AI upscaling sharpens edges and removes compression marks, but it only enlarges what the small file holds: a face 40 pixels wide gets cleaner outlines, not new features. Fine textures such as grass, gravel or hair can come out smoothed, a little like a painting, at 100%, and print too small to read in the original, only a few pixels high, comes out as smooth shapes rather than letters. Images over 1440 pixels on the long side, 4×, and requests made after the free limit is reached or while offline are enlarged on your device with Preserve Details, which adds pixels but no detail; the card says which one you got. On iPhone and iPad a result can be about 16.7 megapixels at most. One image at a time. JPG is re-encoded once at quality 92; the download carries no EXIF.

Does the AI change my photo?
Not its content. The model is trained to restore how a photo looked before it was shrunk and compressed, so it sharpens edges and removes JPEG blocks without repainting anything: faces keep their features and are not retouched, nothing is added, and lettering that is readable in the original (in our test, 11 px and larger) keeps its letters while logos keep their shapes. Print too small to read stays unreadable, and fine textures such as gravel can come out smoothed.
Is my image uploaded?
For the AI step, yes: the image, up to 1440 px on the long side, goes to our server and the enlarged one comes back. The copies used to process it are deleted automatically within one hour. To keep everything on your device, choose Edit > Preferences > AI Assistant and set Super Resolution to Preserve Details (on this device).
Is it really free?
Yes, with no account and no watermark. To keep it free, each network address can upscale a limited number of images per minute, hour and day, and the site has a daily total. When a limit is reached the card says so, enlarges the picture on your device instead, and offers Retry.
How big can I print it?
Divide the pixels by 300: 1600 × 1200 prints 13.5 × 10.2 cm (5.3 × 4 in) at 300 ppi. To tag the file 300 ppi, click More options…, clear Resample in Image Size and set Resolution to 300.
Can I do 4×?
On your device, yes. Press Ctrl+Z (Command+Z on a Mac) to undo the 2×, then choose Image > Super Resolution... and pick 4×. 4× uses Preserve Details resampling, not AI, so it adds pixels but no detail.
