How to use it

Job and exam forms that cap uploads at 20 KB usually want a small JPG of a face or a signature. The result card opens already set to 20 KB and JPG, and anything you change in the editor behind it, a crop or a new pixel size, shows up in the size before you download.

  1. Click Choose an image, or drop the photo on the page. The result card opens with the size limit at 20 KB and Format set to JPG.
  2. Crop with the Crop tool while the card stays open; if the form names pixels, click Resize under Next. For the 295 × 413 sample the card reads 109 KB → 19.4 KB · JPG · quality 77 · 295 × 413.
  3. Click Download JPG. The file keeps your name with “compressed” added. For a different limit, type it in Size limit first.
Why did the pixels get smaller?
Even at quality 50 a full phone photo is far bigger than 20 KB, so the card scales the whole image down, keeping its shape, until it fits. Crop to the frame the form asks for first, or set exact pixels in Image > Image Size, and it rarely needs to shrink further.
Can a passport-size photo stay 295 × 413 at 20 KB?
Usually. The 295 × 413 sample on a white background fits at quality 77 with its pixels unchanged; a busy background needs a lower quality.
Does it work for a signature?
Yes; crop to the strokes. A small signature on white paper usually lands well under 20 KB. Below about 300 pixels wide a scan turns soft, so scan at 200 dpi and crop before compressing.
Is 20 KB counted as 20,000 or 20,480 bytes?
The card counts 1 KB as 1,000 bytes, so 20 KB means at most 20,000 bytes and the file also passes forms that count 1,024. The size on the card is the real file, rounded down: 19.4 KB is 19,489 bytes for the sample. Some forms also set a minimum, such as 10 KB; the lowest limit you can type is 10.
I picked PNG and the card shows a warning.
PNG is lossless, so the size limit does not apply and a photo stays far above 20 KB (the sample comes out at 213 KB). The card says so, and its main button becomes Save as JPG instead.
Can I compress several images at once?
Yes. Select several files in the file box and the button becomes Download ZIP. Each image gets the same treatment as a single one: the highest quality between 50 and 92 that fits, then smaller pixels only if it must.
What are the limits?
It opens JPG, PNG, WEBP, HEIC, GIF and BMP and saves a JPG at the highest quality between 50 and 92 that fits, so the file comes out under the limit, not exactly at it; a form with a 20 KB cap only checks that the file is not bigger. Up to 100 million pixels an image. Everything runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
