How to use it

Discord's help page asks for custom emoji under 256KB, as JPEG, PNG, GIF or WEBP, with a name of at least 2 letters, numbers or underscores (How to Add Custom Emojis on Discord, checked 21 Oct 2026). The 128 × 128 size comes from Discord's developer documentation, which describes "the 128x128 emoji image" and a 256 KiB limit (Emoji Resource, checked 21 Oct 2026). Stickers follow a separate spec: exactly 320 × 320 px, PNG or APNG, up to 512KB (Tips for Sticker Creators FAQ, checked 21 Oct 2026).

  1. Pick Emoji · 128 px or Sticker · 320 px, then click Choose an image, or drop a PNG, JPG or WebP on the page.
  2. Read the card: the emoji on dark and light chat, its pixel size, format and file size. A rectangular image is padded to a square with transparent edges, not cropped. A line with · is a tip, not a rejection.
  3. If the background is white, the card says so and Remove background is the main button; it runs on your device, the first time downloads a 44 MB model, and the original stays under a layer mask. If the image is smaller than 128 px, click Enlarge 2× (Super Resolution: it resamples and sharpens, and adds no new detail).
  4. Click Download PNG. In Discord, open Server Settings > Emoji and click Upload Emoji.

How big does Discord show an emoji?
Discord's help page doesn't give a display size. The card shows your emoji at 64 px on a dark and a light chat background; zoom the canvas out to judge it smaller.
My emoji is over 256 KB. What now?

Does Discord need a transparent background?
No, but a white square shows on dark chat. Click Remove background; the original stays under a layer mask, so you can paint the edges back in the Layers panel.
Can I make an animated sticker here?
No. Animated stickers need APNG, which Photopip doesn't write. Sticker · 320 px gives a static 320 × 320 PNG under 512 KB.
