Compress an image to under 50 KB

Get a photo under 50 KB for a recruitment or exam form in seconds.

How to use it

Recruitment and exam portals often cap the photo at 50 KB, and many also set a minimum. The result card opens set to 50 KB and JPG: it keeps the highest quality between 92 and 50 that fits and only then scales the pixels down, so the 1080 × 1440 sample selfie comes out at 761 × 1015. The size and pixels show before you download. If the form names pixels, set them first and check that the file still clears the form's minimum.

  1. Click Choose an image, or drop the photo on the page. The result card opens with Size limit at 50 KB and Format set to JPG.
  2. If the form names pixels, click Resize under Next and type them. For the 1080 × 1440 sample selfie the card reads 428 KB → 49.0 KB · JPG · quality 57 · 761 × 1015. The card counts 1 KB as 1,000 bytes, so the file also passes forms that count 1,024.
  3. Click Download JPG. Before you upload, check the size against the form's minimum as well as its maximum.
The form says 20–50 KB and my file came out under 20 KB. Now what?
Keep the pixels the form asks for and raise the quality instead. Click More options..., set the JPG quality higher in Export As (up to 100) and watch the file size there; the card itself stops at quality 92. If it is still too small, start again from the original photo rather than a copy that was already compressed. Don't enlarge the photo to pad the file.
Which forms use 50 KB?
Mostly Indian recruitment and exam portals. NIOT's recruitment form, for example, asks for a JPEG photo larger than 12 KB and no larger than 50 KB (checked 23 Oct 2026). The numbers change between notices, so read the one for your round.
My passport upload wants at least 50 KB.
Then 50 KB is the minimum, not the maximum, and you shouldn't compress at all. The UK passport service asks for a digital photo of at least 50 KB and no more than 10 MB, at least 600 × 750 pixels (checked 23 Oct 2026). Upload the original, or click More options... and save it at a high quality in Export As.
Can I do the photo and the signature together?
One at a time, because each has its own limit. Compress the photo and download it, then open the signature and type its limit, for example 20, in Size limit.
What are the limits?
It opens JPG, PNG, WEBP, HEIC, GIF and BMP and saves a JPG at the highest quality between 50 and 92 that fits, so the file lands under the limit, not exactly on it. The card checks the maximum only. The lowest limit you can type is 10 KB. Up to 100 million pixels an image. Everything runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
