How to use it

Someone walked into the frame, or you want the photo without them. Choose it, brush over the person with the Remove tool and let go: the gap is filled from the nearby sky, wall or ground by an inpainting model in your browser.

  1. Click Choose a photo to remove a person, or drop an image anywhere on the page. The Remove tool is already selected; the brush starts at 60 px, press [ or ] to change it.
  2. Brush over the whole person, going a little past the outline, and include their shadow and anything they are holding. A magenta overlay shows what will be removed; for a whole group, draw a loop around them.
  3. Let go. The fill takes a few seconds per stroke; the first use downloads the 28 MB model. If a shoulder or a foot remains, brush over it again with a smaller brush.
  4. For several strangers in the background, open the AI Assistant (Ctrl+K or Command+K) and type "remove the people". If the largest face is at least 8% of the photo's width, that person is kept as the subject and much smaller faces not touching them are filled in one by one. When all the faces are small, people standing inside the main subject are kept and everyone else is removed; if the subject is a pet or a building, every person counts. People facing away are not found: brush them.
How do I remove my ex from a photo without it looking edited?
Two or three strokes work better than one wide one: brush the body first, then the shadow, then the feet where they meet the ground. The model fills each stroke from a 512-pixel crop around it, so a person against sky, sand, grass or a wall vanishes cleanly. Where they touched you, their arm or hair overlapping yours, the fill guesses; finish those spots with the Clone Stamp (S).
Can it remove a crowd or a whole group of people?
Yes, in pieces. Loop each person or small cluster and release, rather than painting the whole crowd at once: a fill the size of half the frame comes back soft, because the model works at 512 pixels. For a tight group, select them with the Lasso and choose Edit > Content-Aware Fill, then clone texture back where it looks smooth.
Is the photo uploaded to remove people?
No. The fill is computed in your browser by MI-GAN, an open-source inpainting model of 28 MB that downloads once: a few seconds per stroke. The result is full resolution with no watermark; a photo over 100 megapixels (about 16.7 megapixels on iPhone and iPad) is scaled down when it opens, so that smaller size is what you get back. If the model fails to load, the stroke is filled by patch matching from nearby pixels instead.
Wires, bins or stains instead of people?
Use the same Remove tool; the Remove objects from photos page covers large areas and Content-Aware Fill.
