Remove a watermark from your own photo

Photopip finds the © line, @handle or web address you added and fills it from the photo around it; other text stays.

How to use it

This page is for photos you took or hold the rights to, such as a picture you signed years ago and no longer have the original of. Choose the photo and Photopip reads the text on your device, picks out the lines that look like a watermark, and fills them from the picture around them.

  1. Click Choose your photo, or drop it on the page. The first time, the text detection models download, so it takes a few seconds longer.
  2. Wait while the text is read and the watermark is filled. Over a flat color or a smooth backdrop the gap is filled on your device; over anything busier, the area around the watermark goes to our server and an AI model fills it.
  3. When the card says Removed 9 watermarks (or however many it found), click Download JPG. The format follows the original, and ‑no‑watermark is added to the file name.
  4. If a trace is left, or the watermark is a logo, click Use Remove Tool and paint over it. The area fills when you release.
CaseWhat happens
Removed© and copyright lines, @handles and web addresses; the same words repeated across the photo; faint, see-through text; a small line in a corner when the photo has little other text
Left in placeHeadlines, labels and other words; stock-photo names and SAMPLE, PREVIEW or PROOF marks (the card says so and offers no download)
Paint by handLogos and shapes with no letters, handwritten signatures, anything the card missed: click Use Remove Tool on the card, then paint over it

The fill is rebuilt from the surroundings, not recovered: whatever was under the watermark is gone, so a mark across a face, fabric or fine pattern can come back soft. On the sample, the nine marks over wood grain and the open notebook leave no visible trace at 100%. Handwriting and heavily styled lettering are often not read; paint those with the Remove Tool. If the AI fill can't be used (too many fills from your connection in a short time, today's free allowance used up, or no connection), the area is patched from nearby pixels instead, the card says so and offers Retry. One photo at a time.

Whose photos can I use this on?
Your own: photos you took, or ones you hold the rights to and watermarked yourself. This page is not for removing someone else's watermark to use their work, and in many countries taking a copyright notice off someone's image is against the law. Stock-photo names and SAMPLE, PREVIEW or PROOF marks are left in place; on a photo that has only those, the card says so and nothing changes.
Is my photo uploaded?
Only the part that needs the AI fill. The text is found on your device, and marks over a flat color or a smooth backdrop are filled there too. Over a busier area, the region around the watermark, at most 1536 pixels on the long side, is sent to our server, used only for this fill and deleted within an hour. No sign-in is needed.
What if the watermark is a logo?
Then there is no text to find. The card says No text watermark found and the Remove Tool is already selected (in the toolbar it shares a slot with the Spot Healing Brush Tool): paint over the logo and release, and the area fills from the surroundings. The card then changes to a download.
I added the watermark in Photopip. Is there a quicker way?
If the document is still open, or you saved it as a PSD, the watermark is its own layer: hide or delete it in the Layers panel. A JPG you downloaded with the watermark already has it merged into the pixels, so use this page.
