How to use it

Choose a picture, set the rows and columns, and Photopip cuts it into tiles numbered in reading order and downloads them as one zip. Post them last to first and they line up on your profile.

  1. Click Choose an image to split. The picture opens in the editor and the Custom Split dialog asks for rows and columns, 1 to 10 each; 3 × 3 is the classic grid. Tile Ratio keeps the picture as it is (Original) or crops from the center so every tile is 1:1 or 4:5; select Output each 1080 px wide for 1080×1080 or 1080×1350 tiles.
  2. Click OK. The tiles download as PNG files in one zip, named _1 to _9 from top left to bottom right, and cut so the edges meet exactly even when the width does not divide evenly.
  3. Post them in reverse, 9 first and 1 last, so tile 1 ends up top left on a profile that shows the newest post first.
  4. For square tiles from a non-square picture, choose File > Export > Grid Split > 3×3 Grid instead; it center-crops to a square before cutting. 2×2 Grid and 1×3 Horizontal Split sit next to it.
How do I split a photo into 9 for Instagram without an app?
Open the photo in Photopip (it runs in the browser, nothing to install), choose File > Export > Grid Split > 3×3 Grid, and you get a zip with nine square PNG tiles numbered 1 to 9. Upload them 9 to 1. The picture is cut on your device and not uploaded.
Does the picture have to be square?
No. The 3×3 and 2×2 presets center-crop to a square first. Custom Rows & Columns, which the button above opens, keeps the whole picture by default, so each tile is the picture's proportions divided by the grid; set Tile Ratio to 1:1 or 4:5 to crop from the center to square or 4:5 tiles instead.
How big is each tile?
The picture's width divided by the columns: with 3 columns a 1080 px wide photo gives 360 px tiles. Tick Output each 1080 px wide and every tile is scaled to 1080 px wide; a picture narrower than columns × 1080 (3240 px for 3 columns) is scaled up, so start from a large one.
Can it make a carousel that continues across slides?
Yes. File > Export > Grid Split > Seamless Carousel 4:5 (or 1:1) cuts a wide picture into 2–10 slides, each up to 1080 px wide, so the image continues as people swipe. Photopip suggests the slide count from the picture's proportions and crops the extra from the center. The AI Assistant understands "split into instagram carousel" too.
Can I edit the picture before splitting?
Yes. The grid export cuts the flattened result of all visible layers, so add text, a logo or a color adjustment first, then split.
