How to use it

Open a photo and the Raw Adjustments dialog opens on it with the sliders you know: temperature and tint, exposure, highlights and shadows, texture, clarity and dehaze, a mixer for eight colors, color grading by shadows, midtones and highlights, grain and vignette. Press Y, or click the Before/After button at the bottom right of the preview, to compare with the original.

  1. Click Choose a photo to grade. The Raw Adjustments dialog opens on the photo's layer; later you can reach it from Filter > Raw Adjustments…, or press Shift+Ctrl+A (Windows) or Shift+Command+A (macOS).
  2. Click Auto for a starting point, or set Temperature and Exposure first, then shape the tones with Highlights, Shadows, Whites and Blacks.
  3. Open Detail, Color Mixer, Color Grading or Effects for sharpening and noise reduction, per-color hue, saturation and luminance, split toning, grain and vignette. Double-click a label to reset that slider; press Y or click the Before/After button to compare with the original.
  4. Click OK. The result is one History step on the layer, so Ctrl+Z (Windows) or Command+Z (macOS) brings the photo back. To keep the original untouched, duplicate the layer first with Ctrl+J or Command+J.
Is this a free alternative to desktop raw grading?
For JPG and PNG, yes. The Raw Adjustments dialog has the familiar Basic slider set (Temperature, Tint, Exposure from −5 to +5, Contrast, Highlights, Shadows, Whites, Blacks, Texture, Clarity, Dehaze, Vibrance, Saturation) plus Detail, an 8-color Color Mixer, three-way Color Grading, grain and vignette. It runs on your device, free, with no sign-up. It does not open raw files from a camera, and the dialog has no masks or lens profiles, though it does have a Curve panel, spot removal and red-eye.
Does it open RAW files from my camera?
No. CR2, NEF, ARW and DNG are not decoded. The file picker takes JPG, PNG, WEBP, AVIF, HEIC, GIF, BMP, TIFF, SVG, PSD and PDF, so export a JPG or TIFF from your camera maker's software first, then grade it here.
Can I save the settings?
Yes. Click Create Preset… in the Presets panel; your presets are kept in this browser. The result itself is written to the layer's pixels when you click OK. For a look to reuse across files, build it with adjustment layers and export a .cube LUT (File > Export > Color Lookup Table), which loads back through Image > Adjustments > Color Lookup.
Why does the same number look different from a desktop app?
The slider names and ranges match, but the math is Photopip's own, so values copied from another app's recipe will not give an identical picture. Set the look by eye. Photos above 2 megapixels are processed in worker threads, with progress shown in the status bar.
