Flip an image

Flip a picture horizontally or vertically and download it in seconds, free.

, or drop one here

How to use it

Choose an image and it opens already flipped horizontally, the way a mirror shows it. Lettering reads backwards afterwards, which is what iron-on transfer paper and vinyl stencils need.

  1. Click Choose an image, or drop a PNG or JPG on the page. It opens flipped horizontally, with Horizontal pressed in the result card.
  2. Click Vertical to flip it top-to-bottom as well, or click Horizontal again to undo the left-right flip. With both pressed the picture is turned 180°; with neither, the card shows the original and waits.
  3. Click Download PNG (or JPG, matching the file you opened). To flip just one layer later, use Edit > Transform > Flip Horizontal.
Is flipping the same as mirroring?
Yes: to mirror an image, flip it horizontally, which is also how a selfie saved the wrong way round goes back.
Why is the text backwards now?
That is what a flip does. Printed on transfer paper and pressed onto fabric, it reads correctly again.
Can I flip only one object, not the whole picture?
Select its layer and choose Edit > Transform > Flip Horizontal; the rest stays.
Does flipping lose quality?
Not for a PNG: pixels are moved, not resampled. The PNG can still come out larger than the file you opened (the sample goes from 23 KB to 60 KB), because the browser compresses PNG less tightly than some apps; the picture is the same. A JPG is re-encoded once at quality 92.
Will a phone photo come out sideways?
No. The browser turns a JPG upright from its orientation tag when it opens, so the flip happens to the picture as you see it, and the saved file has no orientation tag left to turn it again.
What are the limits?
It opens PNG, JPG, WEBP, GIF (first frame), BMP and HEIC. PNG, JPG and WEBP save in the same format; other formats save as PNG if they have transparency, otherwise JPG. One image at a time, up to 100 million pixels. EXIF is not carried over. Everything runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
