Auto-enhance a photo

One click sets exposure, contrast, color and a light sharpen; the card says what changed.

How to use it

Yes, free and with nothing uploaded: open the photo and Photopip reads its histogram, sets exposure, contrast, black and white points, white balance, vibrance and clarity to suit it, and adds a light sharpen, in one step. The card says what was changed; set Strength from 0 to 200% to take less or more, and the photo keeps its size and format.

  1. Click Choose a photo, or drop an image on the page. History shows Raw Adjustments and Unsharp Mask; the card names what was changed, for the sample *Darkened it a little, added a little contrast*.
  2. Too much or too little? Type a Strength on the card (100% is the automatic setting) and press Enter; the previous enhance is undone first, so it is never applied twice.
  3. To set each slider yourself, click More options…: the Raw Adjustments dialog opens on top of the enhanced photo.
  4. Click Download JPG. A PNG is saved as PNG.

ChangesExposure, contrast, blacks, whites, white balance, vibrance and clarity, chosen from this photo; then Unsharp Mask 40%, 1 px, threshold 3
SavesSame size and format; JPG at quality 92, PNG lossless
Limit & whereOne photo at a time, 100 million pixels; in your browser, nothing uploaded
Tested (29 Oct 2026)Sample hazy lake, 1600 × 1067, median brightness 214: exposure −0.59, contrast +20, blacks −13, whites +25, vibrance +25, clarity +10; no white-balance change was needed

The enhance works with what the photo holds. Areas blown out to pure white or crushed to pure black stay that way, and a night or candle-lit photo is mostly left alone so it keeps its mood. It does not remove noise, blur or objects, and it does not retouch faces. One image at a time, only the active layer; JPG is re-encoded once at quality 92.

What does auto enhance do to a photo?
It measures the photo and sets exposure, contrast, black and white points, white balance, vibrance and clarity to suit it, then sharpens edges lightly. Nothing is repainted or added, and the card lists what was changed.
Can I make the auto enhance weaker or stronger?
Yes. Type a Strength on the card: 50% applies half of each change, 150% one and a half times. The previous result is undone first.
How do I fix a washed-out or hazy photo?
Open it here; a pale, low-contrast photo gets darker midtones, deeper blacks and more contrast. For fog that should stay, lower Strength.
Why did my night photo barely change?
Dark scenes and photos lit by lamps are detected and kept dark and warm on purpose. Raise Strength, or click More options… to set the sliders yourself.
