Convert a JPG to PNG

A lossless PNG from any JPG, with the file size shown before you download.

, or drop one here

How to use it

Yes, a JPG becomes a PNG in one step: pick the file and the card above the canvas saves it as a lossless PNG. Expect the file to grow two to five times, because PNG stores every pixel exactly. The encoding runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded.

  1. Click Choose a JPG, or drag the photo onto the page. For a batch, select several JPGs in the file dialog.
  2. Read the size line in the card: PNG is preselected and it shows, say, 188 KB → 1.5 MB · PNG · 1152 × 896. Switch to WEBP here if size matters more than lossless.
  3. Click Download PNG; the name stays the same with a .png extension. With several files the button is Download ZIP.
Does converting JPG to PNG improve the quality?
No. PNG keeps exactly the pixels the JPG already has, including any blockiness from earlier compression; it only stops further loss. What you gain is a format that can hold transparency, keeps text edges crisp through repeated saves, and is accepted where JPG is not, such as app icons and print templates.
Why is the PNG so much bigger than my JPG?
PNG compresses losslessly, and a photo with millions of colours compresses poorly that way; a 188 KB JPG commonly becomes a 1–2 MB PNG. If the destination needs a small file and transparency, click WEBP in the card instead: it carries an alpha channel and is usually several times smaller than the PNG.
How do I make the background transparent after converting?
Converting alone does not add transparency; the new PNG is still fully opaque. The editor is already open, so choose Select > Subject, press Ctrl+J (Windows) or Command+J (macOS) to copy the subject to its own layer, hide the Background layer in the Layers panel, then choose File > Export As and save a PNG. The hidden area is written as transparent.
