Make the background of an image transparent

Turn a sticker, drawing or product photo into a cutout with a see-through background.

, or drop one here

Free at full size, with no watermark.

How to use it

Choose an image and the subject is cut out onto a checkerboard. Keep Transparent selected and click Download PNG: the file has real alpha, so a sticker drops into a design without a white box around it.

  1. Click Choose an image to make transparent, or drop a PNG or JPG anywhere on the page. A logo screenshot, a drawing or a product shot works as well as a portrait.
  2. Wait while the subject is found; the checkerboard shows which pixels are now transparent. The first run downloads a 44 MB model, after that the cutout runs on your device.
  3. Leave Transparent selected in the card above the canvas and click Download PNG. JPG can't hold transparency, so this card always writes PNG.
  4. If a thin white rim is left around the shape, click the mask thumbnail in the Layers panel and paint it away with a black brush, or choose Select > Select and Mask to tidy the edge.
How do I make the background of my logo transparent so I can put it on my website?
Open the logo here and download the PNG with Transparent selected. The model works at 1024 pixels, so a thin letter stroke can drop out and a small enclosed gap, like the inside of an "o", can be filled. Click the mask thumbnail in the Layers panel: paint with white to bring a stroke back, with black to clear a hole.
Does the transparent PNG keep the full resolution?
Yes, up to 100 megapixels (about 16.7 megapixels on iPhone and iPad): the download has the same pixel size as the original and an 8-bit alpha channel, with no watermark and no upload. A larger picture is scaled down to 100 megapixels when it opens, and a note gives both sizes. To make it smaller for the web, click Compress under the card, set a size limit and choose PNG (lossless) in the format menu; Auto would keep the transparency but switch to WEBP.
Why does the transparent PNG look white somewhere?
Previewers and chat apps draw a white page behind transparency; the pixels are still transparent. A JPG can't hold it: this card writes PNG.
Can I make only part of an image transparent, like the sky?
The card cuts out the main subject. For one area, close the card and work in the editor: select it with the Magic Wand or Object Selection tool, then choose Layer > Layer Mask > Hide Selection. The pixels are hidden rather than deleted, so you can paint them back later, and File > Export > Export As saves the PNG.
